At Kidz Prints ELC & Pre-School, we believe that every child brings a unique “backpack” of knowledge, skills, and experiences into our classroom. This “backpack,” known as funds of knowledge, is filled with the rich and diverse experiences children gain from their families, communities, and cultures. By recognising and building on these strengths, we create deeper connections that foster belonging, confidence, and continuity in learning.
Harmony Week: Celebrating Diversity Through Hands-On Learning
We embraced the spirit of Harmony Week by celebrating cultural diversity and learning from one another. One of the highlights was our making Korean sushi-making and Chinese fried noodles activities, where children had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on cooking experience led by one of our talented educators. This activity wasn’t just about making delicious food—it was a way to explore and appreciate different cultural traditions while developing valuable skills along the way.
Through this experience, children built on their:
Fine Motor Skills – Rolling and assembling the sushi encouraged precise hand movements and coordination.
Social and Communication Skills – Working together and following instructions fostered teamwork and active listening.
Cultural Awareness – Learning about Korean and Chinese cuisine and traditions helped expand their understanding of the world around them.
